I havn’t looked much as md3, but md2 is really focused on Quake2’s player animations, and a lot of the tools around it are too - so it’s probably not the best format.

md2 is a pretty popular format anyway. Try finding a copy of MilkShape (worth the money) or another modelling package that supports exporting to it.

You could concievably use 3ds, and assign special names to different parts of the mesh, if you’re after a home-brew solution.

You can find some links to site’s with a lot of cars..

Convert them
Use them in your Game,

Ur don’t need to be frightened for wheels animation.

you know guys i use 3dsmax 6 for desing my cars and animate them , but
my 3dsmax 6 exporter (to md2) just export only one mesh (with its animation) .
and when i attach wheels meshes to the body mesh my animation lost , and i can’t
animate wheels after attach correctly .

however i think for car racing game i must use another format (?) .
any body knows the car format of nfsu2 ?

thanx

Wouldn’t it be easier if your code rotated the wheels itself, along with managing the steering & suspension?

that’s a good idea that i load 4 wheels as meshes and control them with code .
in that way i can rotate them depend on car speed and …
but for 5 or more car in a game i must control at least 20 wheels as meshes and
doesn’t it effect on game speed ???
(i wish no)

You only need the data once per wheel type, it should’nt be a big deal

……….. is there a reason you chose to respond to a 4 year old post?

It was spam (a link in the signature). And for the record, 2008 - 2005 is 3 years, not 4. ;)

eh, I was rounding. The number of months made it almost 4 years. But I should probably stop responding so this can sink back down :)
