Here’s a screenshot of Wildfire Games’ freeware historical
real-time strategy game, 0 A.D. taken a couple of months ago. It’s
still early days in development, but I hope this pre-alpha image gives
an impression of the direction we’re taking.

As a project, 0 A.D. is not only about creating a great RTS game. It’s
also about learning what can and can’t be done in the world of game
development. 0 A.D. is a very unusual project in terms of development
process; the team members never meet in person, and all work is done
on-line and unpaid.
It is one of our goals to share our development experiences with all
those interested, and for this purpose, the team members will regularly
write their mind on different aspects of the development. It’s your
chance to get an impression of what happens behind the scenes.

nice screenshot but you could have probably given a little more
background on your project and it’s development.
edit : yeah… that’s better :)
Good read :)
Glad to see 0 A.D. is progressing! I follow the development of the that
game from the start and i will definetely be honored to beta-test it!
Nice screenshots !!! Keep up the good work!
Amazing work for no pay. Rarely do I see skilled artists working for
nothing, this in itself is a noteable achievement of the project. It is
difficult to tell if the actual workings of the engine are to similar
quality from screenshots alone, but given the artwork, I will give the
programming the benifit of the doubt. Still, I would love to see it in
I look forward to seeing more from this project.
It looks very nice indeed. I’m a rabid fan of AOE2 and probably will be
of your project
What can I add? Marvelous!
Seriously, those are no ordinary screenshots, rather screamshots!
You just showed what can be achieved with a good use of 3D and well
Ohh, I’d love to have the skill your artists have! :)
Would they be willing to write some tut on how to get started creating
Well, anyway, that’s a great job already!
Looking forward to it :)
I’ll talk of 0 a.d. with some friends. They’ll like it I’m sure.
I really like the ‘Engine’ guide, especially since you are approaching
the engine design in a very similar way as I am with my current project.
