A rather interesting set of stuff they’ve got going there.. I wonder how well the “true AR” mode works.

The kickstarter just isn’t complete without Toby the cat :)
The tech looks interesting and I can see it have a place amongst table top games. All the fun, none of the mess :) I’m curious how powerful the projector is. My guess is it would have to be pretty powerful to get vibrant colours to show up on a screen surface, especially at some distance away. Seems weird though, given how small the projectors are.
The screen is retroreflective, not like a regular projector screen. It bounces most of the light straight back at you, so the projectors don’t need to be very powerful. I had the opportunity to try it out a few months ago when they demoed their tech at NVIDIA, and the image is reasonably visible in a fairly well lit room in the daytime, sitting a couple meters from the screen. It’s not as saturated or high-contrast as on a TV screen, since it can’t subtract light but only add it, and the screen is grey in color to begin with. What you see in their Kickstarter video is exactly what it looks like when you’re wearing it. Being in a darker room helps, I’m sure.
I too am curious what the “true AR/VR” mode is all about. They didn’t have that when I saw it. I don’t see how they’re solving the focus problem - the display is so close to your eyes that you couldn’t normally focus on it, and AFAIK if you put optics in there like the Rift has to help you focus on it, then you can’t focus on the background…so I don’t know how you get AR out of this. There are no details on their page or in the video, so I’m very interested in hearing more about that.
