Another one that takes you straight to the external site
Dia, it seems to be only your posts that work that way…any idea what’s going on?
The way it works currently is that if the post is only a link, the post goes directly to the link, otherwise, if it also includes content, it goes to the discussion page. Now that I’m seeing that this is creating confusion, I agree that it should be consistent. I think going directly to link makes more sense, since that’s the point of sharing a link, and most of the time there will no discussion when the link is new. There’s a way to go to the discussion anyways through the replies link. Perhaps, we can make it user-configurable to allow individual preferences.
I see. I can understand the rationale, but I find it very unexpected for a link on the main page, which visually appears the same as a link to a discussion page, to go offsite. I’d be happier with it going to the discussion page always, even though that means it takes an extra click to go to the actual external site.
(FWIW, part of how I decide whether to even bother visiting an external link, is whether there’s any interesting discussion going on about it. So I’d actually rather see the comments first.)
I too feel like people should be brought to the discussion page first. People should take the time to write something meaningful and encourage a discussion. This site shouldn’t be treated like a news aggregator That in my opinion will only degrade the quality of the community and the site.
I have no interest in link sites.
Also we have always asked people who post links to their newly released games to talk about the development of the game rather than just post a “hey I did this! It’s The BEst GamE Ever!!!!!! BuY IT if Yor Leete”
Allowing direct linking seems to me to be going against this ethos.
FYI, the behavior has been now changed to be consistent, and it’s configurable in your profile settings.
Thanks, that’s much, much better.
