looks like its the future to me, its got a kind of grit to it, it makes
it really real.

Very nice. It’s nice to see they’ve got some animation going, as that
was missing in these types of videos for a long time. I have to wonder,
though, if customers/players will accept the way it gets noisy when you
move the camera around, as it’s recalculating all the samples. It seems
pretty distracting, like the texture streaming in RAGE. With traditional
real-time rendering, the image isn’t as high-quality, but it’s more
stable when you move around. I’m not sure if the real-time path tracing
is going to be usable for games with that kind of issue, but there are
other applications, like architectural visualization, where it would be
awesome. And hey, just wait a few years and GPUs will be fast enough to
do a lot more samples per frame and reduce the visible noise. :)
remains to be seen if there will be shortcuts that get something similar
with less horsepower.
dice is in charge of alternate methods at this stage, and theirs looks
pretty good too.
