The backgrounds in Homeworld used vertex colors.

Interesting, can you give some file sizes. It should be smaller than the base TGA if my calculations are correct

Heh, the delaunay triangulation for colourmaps, I thought they were skyboxes, but it’s interesting they chose vector art. I quite like the scalability of vector graphics and you can produce some highly detailed art with it, but at the significant cost of performance. I guess in Homeworld’s case they could get away with its simplistic colours.
