What should i try learning as a hobby?

Just finished first semester of my first year of game design at university.
Getting bored here now not doing anything.
anyone suggest a language or engine I should get into and why?

If you don’t know a language, I would suggest Python.
A modeler, like Blender, might be a good idea, also, unless you are scheduled to learn one, then you should pick that.

practice some art like zbrush or photoshop, thats always useful.

The following languages are in IMHO decreasing order of importance in our field
Native languages: C/C++, D
Managed languages: C#, Java
Scripting languages: Lua, Python, Ruby

An apparently trivial yet interesting (and not that easy) homework:
- embed a high-level language into a lower-level one e.g. Lua into C, Python into C, etc
