rouncer you should try sculptris. you could concept anything you want, with it. sculptris makes it so easy, really no one needs skill just time. thats not a comment on your skill level. thats the reality of the program

Art skill is just as respectable as programming skill… I couldnt say which is harder, but its close.
I realize if your quite an intelligent person, sculptris can work nearly first time, but its only cause your good, I respect that.
Speed of production is just as important as quality, what if you have 20 pages of a comic to finish? You better get on with it as quick as you can.

you dont even need intelligence with sculptris. it really does, so much of the work for you. that all you have to do is spend time on it. and you will get something that looks good.

I let a women over 50, that has never drawn at all. and can only partially use her right hand. use sculptris, she had no problems at all making whatever. she said I cant even draw and Im doing this its so easy.

I told her you still cant draw, its the software. essentially doing the work for you. she said yeah, that makes sense. but she enjoyed using it as everyone does

I spose, the program I know thats so easy to use is 3d coat, you just plug shapes together to make buildings and things, thats really easy too… but I imagine youd still be paying someone to do it.

I thought it was a caricature of a crescent moon. Looks neat though.

tyree, I tried Sculptris for the heck of it and while it’s a fun tool, it’s not my cup of tea. I gave up plato a long time ago :) Now I just trace stuff in Blender. That is true idiot proof ;)

the top part and forehead mess it up. it looks more like a joke than a face. note in the other two they are clearly faces. look at the shape of them. with that last one its not really a face

Ah, I see, you have a taste for correct anatomy, but it was all intentional I assure you, its supposed to be a demon, not a human being.

Im not too big on anatomy but everyone makes monsters or demons. in these cases it doesnt matter how bad it is. when the point is to make it ugly. there really are no guidelines for that.

just make whatever but whatever doesnt pass for something based on being human. its always going to have to fall in that human range of believable. the two I spoke on where demon like but still passable as human. with the other one the head shape is just too messed up.

the last one is a typical girl of course that one is good

You’ve got some cool ideas rouncer, the only thing - do they need to be so… blurry?

Thanks Tyree, touch the sky, I will be planning on having more clear images in the future, but im still in digital art training, the blurriness you see is just incompleteness in the pictures, I should go around the place with skinny black lines and harden those edges up a bit for sure, just think of these as more thumbnail drawings, theyd make nice avatars.
They are speed paintings after all, I get them done in under 4 hours.

They are blurry… simply because painting is tricky. ;)

you dont have to leave them blurry despite them being quick. you could duplicate the whole painting and blend it with the original, you could use an effect, which you may not want to do. you seem to want it to be straight paint.

if your painting with air brush use a different brush. If your interested in painting. you should consider using corel painter. if not using it already

No need for them to be so blurry.

I’m going to be honest here:
I like you ideas, and you’ve got some skill in shape-wise drawing.
But you’re technique? Let’s just say that I’m not the biggest fan.

I’m a programmer, but I have an arts degree (2 years of art school, 12 years of free-time education, 2 year of sculpting, …). And from my experience, this style is usually not appreciated.

Try using harder brushes, work in shapes, not lines. The softest that I have ever gone with one of my brushes is maybe 60% ? And that’s when I’m trying to do smoke ..

But then again, this is just my opinion :)

Hey noisecore, thats fine, especially if you want to make art your own way… I figure eventually my style will grow into something people will like, but being a student (even a good one) is about making possibly a few defective drawings on the way to making a really good one.

Check out “title screen” thread… I got the blur to be a little more acceptable.
But still I have a way to go yet, yes, I realize my art is lacking a little professionalness… for sure! :)

All my art is creative commons, use it for whatever you like, just credits would be nice!

Noisecore, I value your opinion, you sound like your just being honest… yes I realize I could do better - If art can be perfected, it pretty much needs to be before its useful for games.

Being an art student is all about practice. If you want to make drawings that are acceptable in the industry, you basically need to eat, breath and sleep while drawing. Yes, you heard me, not draw while doing those, but do those while drawing ! xD

My gf is an “artist” (student) hoping to become a Concept Artist one day, and she draws about 7 hours a day.. On average..

Another thing I would like to say, (what I always say) is that talent is overrated. Talent is just a head start. When you practice alot, everyone can become a good artist. Some just have to work harder than others.

And I’m glad that you took it so well, Rouncer.
Most of the times when you give feedback to a “stranger”, they just start raging and saying that you’re hating xD
