“What engine is better?”-posts should be deleted.

That’s what I think, anyway :closedeye There’s plenty of old threads on it to dig up for those interested, and at times there’s so many new ones popping up, adding annoying noise.

And we all know that the only way to evaluate an engine is to do so in the context of your own game anyway, so these types of questions never makes sense (on the other hand, very specific questions about engines could be more relevant).

Oh, but that is a completely elitist, discriminatory and selective idea that would ditch most of the curious beginners from this forum. GUY, I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!* =)

New registrants require a valid drivers license, facial confirmation, a sample of their blood, and their first born… :lol:

I wouldn’t despise those posts so much if the OP would stick around and at least share their experiences, become part of the community. It’s when you have all these 1-posters asking these kinds of questions and then fall off the face of the Earth or something.

@TheNut

It’s when you have all these 1-posters asking these kinds of questions and then fall off the face of the Earth or something.

Exactly :happy:

My POV is that if the question isn’t a one-liner and someone has the energy to answer such a question, so be it. Censorship is such a slippery slope.

I agree with TheNut that it’d be nice to get a retrospective a few months later…

What if when posting there was a mandatory drop down box with the following options:

  1. I want to make a super ultimate MMORPG and there are going to dragons and lasers and I’m sure as hell not going to make any attempt to use proper grammar in my post, but I just need to know what kind of engine to use and I will stubbornly ignore anyone’s advice, or maybe argue about it.

  2. I have a real question.

Option 1 would bring the user to a page with a large message in giant font stating that they should help themselves by looking at previous posts and at the Engines Database.

Personally, I think there’s been a fall off of these type of posts, especially concerning MMO’s. The way I look at it is that maybe most of them will just give up when they find out there’s a lot of work involved, but not all. There are all kinds of posts that aren’t all that interesting besides these. Some of them are overly self promotional, we know that, but there are also people just wanting to share their work, get crits, etc, so you pretty much have to let them all through. Same with the engine questions.
