Description
Many years ago a team of hobbyists formed a group called “gm squared”. We set out to make new inspired games but never reached our goal. More and more people dropped out because of lacking free time. 6 years ago we had a 3D Engine ready to build games upon. We even managed to put together a small game, but we considered it unfinished and imperfect. We never released it. Until now, when I found this gem on an old HDD of a no longer working PC.

It is a small and action packed game in 3D. First, you equip your gun turret with two weapons of your choice. As soon as you start the game, tanks are coming your way and try to hit your turret, so you have to be quicker and kill them first. You aim with mouse and shoot with the two mouse buttons. Kill multiple targets at once to get bonus points. If you score well enough you may even earn a highscore. It includes an instagib Mod and a “driving mode” Mod. You can even make your own mods by editing some textfile, which describe the game variables.

Here is a download ready for you, if you want to see more then just images: http://gm-squared.de/index.php?target=downloads Just one drawback - as our whole team were germans, everything is in german. If you cannot figure out our homepage, just use this direct link to the download: http://bit.ly/aAwPoW

Looks like it may be fun to play. Will download it later today and post my impressions.

I played it, the textures on the models are really nice, have to say that.
It was actually quite fun judging the distances to hit the tanks.
You probably could add a few more enemies add a few more bells and whistles and it could be a saleable game. :) Unless its dropped forever already tho…

Nice little game, had some fun playing it. The download (57mb) is a bit big, I think, but not a problem at all.

The download size is mainly due too the music and the huge terrain textures. But that should not be a big problem nowadays i guess.

The texture artist, who made that 6 years ago used those too apply for a job - at that worked out. Guess they liked those textures too. And as most member of the former team now have regular jobs, it is quite impossible to work further on the game and sell it.

I saw same people using google translate to browse our page. There might be one more interesting thing to find there, we made
the sourcecode of the game logic available for download too: http://bit.ly/a0pAUn

Im working on texturing some models now myself, if I get anything like what you have here (most notably the main player turret) thatll be me happy.

Our graphican did not like the player turret to much, he made in in a hurry. The tank was much more detailed, but in that game you only see it from afar.

Nice. Not a bad game for spare time team. You got a lot more done than average.

The horizon looks kinda strange. Adding some white standard fog (a few lines of code probably) might make it look a lot better.

Now make a new multiplayer version ;-)

Yeah, you gotta aim for more rouncer… If you aim for stuff like this you will get a better result:

Theres my tank, probably not as good as your stuff in your game, but im happy with it.

The guy who made the turret didnt even like it? I must not judge graphics as harshly… all I think is if it looks like its representing the subject ok, it doesnt really need to be genius.

z80, im only doing old style models at this stage, i still think you could sell a game with them, if im wrong I guess im wrong and then ill move on, but I think just using textures at first is a good simplification cause I actually expect to get a proper game finished by the end of 2010.

So maybe keeping the technology simple (like direct x 8) is my idea.

Yeah, you’re right. If the idea and the gameplay is good enough the eye candy will be secondary. Good luck with it :) Also there is no rule you have to go for photorealistic appearance. You could do some kind of cartoon style instead.
