Volumetric texture

If you’ve seen TV medical shows like House - they always ask for an MRI at some point during the proceedings - you may not have thought that visualizing this type of data can be done in a games engine. The image shows Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data being visualised by Esperient Creator and rendered using a pixel shader..

A series of MRI data slices were combined together to form a volume texture. The volume texture is then processed and rendered by a shader executing on the graphics card. The users can rotate, and change shader parameters like lighting and opacity.

The entire application was developed in Esperient Creator and a video of the demo can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g-ErqZwTYg
