What is InTheory?
First and foremost, InTheory is about discussion. This discussion covers the wide topic of game creation. It is InTheory's goal to discuss and archive all of these topics, ideas and theories for future use by developers, artists, muscians, level designers and game fans.
How will InTheory do this?
The forum provides a place for everyone to discuss what is on their minds. These discussions will be focused upon a single topic, unlike other game discussions that usualy crop up on forums. Each topic will be discussed, analyzed and viewed from all angles. After the discussion appears to be complete, a member, moderator or admin will write up an article summarizing the discussion. The discussion itself will be available in archived format as well.
What if everyone uses a different Programming Language?
We will try to keep the discussions as language independant as possible. If code of some sort is in fact needed, we will cater to the least common denominator. Pseudocode or BASIC style code should be used, as this is easy to understand.
Of course, if the topic is about ideas or tricks regarding a certain language, this can be ignored.
Why is InTheory needed? Isn't this information available elsewhere?
Yes, the information we wish to discuss and archive is infact availble elsewhere. This information is usually scattered around the internet, located in various threads in various forums. To find the answer to your question requires wading through hundreds of inrelated posts. Other sites have this information packaged in articles. Articles are nice, but discussion is much better. Discussion allows you to flesh out your idea/theory and allows for other to critique or help.
InTheory's goal is to take these random theories and ideas from the web and to condense them into a single thread which may be discussed. These discussions, once complete are summarized. This summarization allows others to find relative information quickly and easily. They may then read the entire discussion, and may even contribute to the thread.
