The Wiki knows all… and you can ignore the stuff on 3D, unless your text is 3D :p

I can’t give you any links because most of this stuff is just simple server based code and use of a database. Languages like ASP.NET would greatly simplify making those kind of games, but you could just as well do it in PHP or CGI.

First and foremost, you need to design your game. You should brainstorm all your ideas down and decide how you’re going to implement it.

What you need to do is look into:
1) Sessions / Cookies
2) AJAX
3) Databases (MySQL is quite popular)

Since you want others playing online to interact with other players, you will need to globalize the game states and players. This object should be able to refresh itself outside of the HTTP scope (look into using events - ASP.NET). On each interval, your global object will parse the input queue from players and update the state of the game in a synchronous manner. With AJAX, you can then transmit that data back to the client to update their interface.

I might be uninformed, but what’s the difference between a “text MMO” and a MUSH/MUD/MOO?

If you want to set up a text-based multiplayer game, MU*s are pretty good, and I use PennMUSH, which has some good tutorials.

Edit: Oh, in any case, you’ll need to learn coding to some degree. But learning new things is very good for the brain. :)

Ellis: MUD type games usually involve telnetting into a server and typing text commands to perform actions in the game. What the OP wants seems to be a browser-based MMO, where you go to a webpage that displays some statistics and things, and gives you some buttons to click on to perform actions.

You’ll probably need a database with a table in it that holds user names and passwords. You’ll need to read up on how to create such a database and how to access it using .NET.

These are questions easily answered with a little bit of browsing the documents on the MySQL website. We’re not here to hold your hand through every step; you need to do some of your own research.

Ah, ok, I understand now, the difference. Clicking versus reading and typing. I’m an experienced MU* coder and Wiz, but have zero time (as player, even) on a browser-based online text game. I could point you at many good tutorials for MU* creating, but none for what you want to make.

Unfortunately, Lord Zack, you are going to have to learn to do it. Somewhere, on Google or Ask.com, if you keep searching and input the proper search keywords, is a tutorial to lead you step-by-step through what you might need to make something like Camorra.

It’s going to seem like I’m a very mean person now, but you’re going to have to do your own research. I realize you’re a teenager (or at least you come across as 13, the way you use ‘u’, don’t capitalize and the overextension of “alot”), but one of the best favors ever done for me was in High School. When I was grousing about a research paper on Kabuki (this was in the days of libraries and card catalogs only, no internet, no computers), she told me “You may well forget what you learn about Kabuki while doing this paper, but you’ll always remember what steps to take when researching.”

Go to Google. Type in: How to make a MUD. (Or MUSH)
See what comes up. Choose links. Read. Keep reading until you understand.

You are the only one who can do this. If you can’t even go to Google and have the initiative to read and learn, including learning about databases in the simplest form, you may as well give up now and settle for a life as a Manager at Wendy’s. ;)

Hey dude, I made a website specifically for people interested in creating text-based RPGs. The URL is: www.freewebs.com/thetemplarguild Go to “RPG Help” for information on creating your own RPG. I will add more later, the site’s pretty new.
