PlayStation 3 to Use OpenGL ES, Cg, and Collada

According to a story on GameSpot, Sony has confirmed that the PS3 console will use open standards to facilitate rapid developer adoption and content creation. The console's graphics API will be using OpenGL ES in addition to NVIDIA's Cg for shaders. The development tools will also support COLLADA format for art asset interchange so that developers can share interactive 3D art among multiple platforms. It is believed that this will lead to open development for the console as opposed to previous cases where only authorized game developers were allowed to create games.
