Nexuiz Released: An Open Source FPS Game

Nexuiz is a fast-paced multiplayer first person shooter game, focused on providing basic, old-style deathmatch. It is cross-platform, and supports Windows, Linux, and with Mac. The whole game, including core engine, art, sounds, and music is licensed under GPL. Nexuiz uses a heavily modified version of the Quake 1 engine, named Darkplaces. Darkplaces features realtime lighting and stencil shadows, bumpmapping, gloss, bloom, and totally rewritten network code that supports up to 64 players on a single server. While quality gameplay was a primary goal, its graphics technology and artwork allows the game to compete with the current quality of commercial games.
