ATI's R520 to Support Eight Shader Units

According to a report by the Inquirer, the next generation ATI graphic chip (R520), codenamed "Fudo" will have eight Shader units compared to the current generation chips (X800 and the likes), which had six. This increase of 2 units will definitely provide a boost in shader performance, especially looping. In addition to supporting Shader Model 3.0, the chip would be made using 90nm process technology and will be launched commercially in the spring of 2005. R520’s architecture will not resemble that of the previous generation products and NVIDIA’s NV4x architecture, as it will be implementing more efficient flow-control.
