I think 3D person shooter is good style , since you don't need buildings so it is not really RTS .. more like LoL I suppose , and 3D view will be better in my opinion and because most MMO's use it .

You can start with Unity , it is a Game Engine and it would save you a lot of time , but you will also need to know a programming language like C# or JavaScript .
Or you can go with UDK which doesn't require knowing any programming language (at least for simple games)
