No this isn't a suck-up post :P

The other sections of the forum are not currently working so I just posted this here, feel free to move it as soon as the others come back online.

Idk, I guess with dev being down for a while I just realize how good this sites forums really are compared to all the others. Most of the other forums are totally unpopulated and gameDev's forums are a joke. It's filled with 12 year olds (no offense to onyx ;) , he's cool lol)plugging thier "mmofpsrpg's" and the people who actually know anything either tell you to "google it" or "why don't you try using common sense?"

In the image sharing forums if you post anything of high quality you get flamed for it, take Jacco Bikker's awesome raytracing based game. Not to mention that half the answers I got on the site had nothing to do with what I actually asked.

I mean, on here, responses come slow, but they're always high quality and very helpful.

[/happy rant]

to make this post not useless, thoughts?

Thanks, I do agree. I do like the Gamedev site, but the IRC and forums are a joke. I took a peek into the Gamedev IRC and they were talking about tax returns and stock investments in the main channel. But I do have some sad news: I cannot finish my game for a while due to the fact that my Grandfather died this Friday. If you want more information and updates as to when and what will happen game wise go here. ( I will add a link when the rest of the forums work.)

I didn't really know him, I had only seen him like 3 times I can remember in my life, but I don't think it would be appropriate to stay locked up in my room all day programming when my dad just lost his dad. But I WILL FINISH IT.

Yeah, I know how that is. Sorry for the loss :( , but good luck with finishing.

And btw, I do agree that the site itself and their articles are good, it's just the forums I steer clear of.

The only real problem is see with this site is lack of new content in the form of quality articles. One has to take into account though that gamedev.net operates on a for pay model.

But it would still be great, if we could get rolling again with a few good articles.
If Prolog is the answer, what is the question ?

There are some extremely helpful members.

I tend to like reading slower discussions, now and then between longer periods of programming.

Forums that're too fast usually overflows my concentration, so I run away from them.
