:shaking: Ok.... i can understand everything... i can understand that people have problems... i can understand that the global intelect remains constant while the number of people on earth is increasing... but i don't understand why the f**k you people are more interested in Half-Life 2 when there are also Halo 2 and Doom 3 in the damn poll...

Can somebody answer me please ?!

because.. who cares at all about halo? (yeah, it was fun for a day..).

because.. doom3 is old by gaming standards? it'll be fun, and great, anyways, of course..

because.. if you ever touched the ideas behind hl2, you know the real potential this game has, wich beats out EVERY potential of EVERY till now existing game.

and, if you have a problem with this, you have some real problem. get a life:D

I don't see the real potential of Half Life 2, it's the same as all other FPSs except with a few more features thrown in. Run, hear NPCs talk, you have to get intertwined with the story, get surprised by some stereotypical aliens, shoot them or crush them to bits "they way it's meant be done" etc. The things they have aren't really new and it has that look every other game has. I hated HL1 to the extreme, so I guess there's a bit of bias in my opinion :P

To me, Doom3 is simply the engine without the flashy awkward things: run, shoot and that's it :) I like being practical... Plus the graphics is lots better (cleaner, crisper, more details), the lighting engine is "complete" unlike HL2s and the ragdolls don't look like porridge. Plus they don't have q1 source code in Doom 3 *ahem*.

I didn't like Halo very much do I doubt I'll like Halo2, but it sure looks smooth. I might try it...

Dude! calm down. Videogames is all relative. Just because you think there's no reason for people to want hl2 over d3 dosnt mean there is no reason. I personally couldnt care less about any of those games, xenosaga 2 is on the top of my list. doom3/hl2 are way, way down.

It's all a matter of opinion

Besides, doom 3 is going to be more about hardcore action fun (it seems that way), where as hl2 is going to have some rseriousness to it with it's story line and all. And different people like different types of games. I'd rather have hl2 then d3 as well, cause i like games with an actual story line and that are fun, so hl2 *seems* closer to that then d3.

I like both: good story line, fun game and good GFX so HALO 2 for me!

I got my fragile kind of intel on how HL2 plays :nervous: Really, watching movies (plus "doing" a few other things) shows nice physics interaction with _certain_ objects, but otherwise it's the same kind of meat that you find in many games already out. The physics doesn't do much for the game (I've collected from videos *ahem*). Many graphical misses too. Doom3 impressed and inspired me a lot more when it was announced and all media (_all_ kinds of media :P ) was released.

Why am I extending this, I'll play both regardless :D

 i won't ever buy doom3. i think it looks like the most sucky game i have ever seen(at a gameplay state). there would probably come some much better games made with the doom3 engine than doom3 itself.

 Half-Life 2.. i don't know.. atleast i think the prequel of that game was a genius masterpiece. so i think i would have a greater chance to buy that game than doom3

IMHO, all FPSs are the same anyways - whatever they say about a 'story' in an FPS - there really isn't. Not like you have much time to be thinking about the story while you run around shooting aliens anyways. But a story is neccesary - otherwise the player will get bored shooting things. The best qualities of a good FPS are its realism and simplicity. Who wants to mess around with complicated UI thingies when they are trying to aim and shoot a gun? Realism is extremely important because players easily get annoyed when they can't do something that could easily be done in real life or the physics are totally off.

Considering that, I don't play FPSs much either... I prefer RPGs and RTS games.

Believe it or not, RPGs and RTSs produce the same games too but where FPS concentrate on fire, these genres concentrate on strong storyline (with few exceptions....).

There are also pretty good games that successfuly combine the best of both (Might & Magic series for example).

It's completely personal taste, what you decided to play :) and luckily - there's something for every taste.

I personally like the Half-Life series because of the very realistic and engrossing atmosphere, and the strength of the story, it's Sci-Fi quality, not just what some dev scribbled on the back of a napkin. It's fun too, because it doesn't just center on being scary and gotesque, it has fun physics ect..

I guess you've never played Half-Life or Deus Ex (the first one, don't get me started on the second). Those two games are quite well known for having a good storyline, and both were FPSs.
