A sociological experiment was conducted in Illinois called the "Wallet Test". You can read about it at http://www.wallettest.com/

The researchers deliberately dropped 100 identical wallets (containing money and ID) in public places to test honesty.

The test results were broken down by age, gender and race ----> http://www.wallettes...sults_Page.html

What I'd like to know is why did men steal over twice as much as women?

Because females don't care about money in other men's wallets, because they can get it out of their own man's wallets anyway. Men, on the other hand, don't have that luxury.

Thusly my scientific sound explanation of this phenomenon.

In addition, to add to .oisyn's theory... Men need more money in their own wallets for the women, thus the need to take the money out of someone else's. The circle of life is complete.

Yes, very much so. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the pie-chart for the distribution of female partners amongst men looks exactly the same as that pie-chart on the right, with the green area representing men without a female partner.

Also, another conclusion you can draw from this experiment is that 14% the women are in fact lesbians.

I have to admit that it is convincing though :)

I like those odds!

Does that then mean that 61% of men are homosexual?

Not necessarily, just without female partner. You can't say the same for the 14% of women, because even if a (non-lesbian) woman doesn't have a partner, they still know men from whom they can "borrow" money. Of course, lesbian women know better than to come close to men's wallets (or rather, they will stay away from men in general in the first place).

Empathy might be involved in that, if you're a very empathic person you're likely inclined to want to tell the truth, because of recognizing the way (feeling like) the face you're looking at feels.

Historically seen, men have been relatively aggressive, which might make getting involved in a possible fight over the stolen object seem more feasible.

It would also be interesting to think about why young people stole more, because they've less money or because they're inexperienced?
