Hello folks,

Now I know this is probably going to be considered off topic by some members 'cause it's not about games but I thought you guys would be able to help since in total you know everything there is to know about PCs. And I'm already registered with this forum ;-)

Ok so I installed a TV tuner USB stick in my Windows Vista laptop and now my DVD drive doesn't work. Looking in Device Manager the DVD properties box says:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

So I googled code 19 errors and found some advice on how to fix it. Which amounted to deleting some registry keys. So I uninstalled all the TV tuner stuff, made a restore point, made a registry backup, tried deleting the specified keys, only for Windows to say, cannot delete all the values (something like that). So instead I uninstalled the drive, rebooted, Windows reinstalled the drive, and the same error was still there. I've also downloaded some registry fix programs but they don't find this problem.

So... does anybody have any idea how to fix it? Because I NEED my DVD drive to play movies and music and important stuff like that. Hell, what good's a laptop without a working DVD drive? I can't DO stuff!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello Reedbeta,

Booting in safe mode was just the ticket, I deleted the keys and now everything's back to normal! I knew it would be something simple...

Thank you for your help!
