Having trouble compiling the cube source code

is there another program i can use to build it?
and whats with the "make file" stuff?

Cube is a cross-platform game engine. It compiles to Linux and other operating systems that emerged years before Visual Studio was ever invented.
Makefiles are a POSIX standard. The fact that Windows doesn't adhere to POSIX standards is why everything done the standard way looks foreign.

C++ Express only comes with support for managed C++, so you must download it separately.

Goto 'Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> VC++ Directories' then add an entry that points to where ever the header files are located.
