I am thinking about starting my own game company that makes MMORPGS, something like WoW or something. The company name I was thinking of was Tartarus Entertaintment, Abyss Entertaintment, or Abyssal Entertaintment. Which one is the best...anything?

Thanks!

How about:

Event Horizon.

I was thinking of the movie a couple of days ago and thought, this would be a cool name for a band. It works for game dev just as well.

Just be sure you check that no one else is already using the name, or you run the risk of getting into a load of legal trouble...

How about Neutron Blast Software? Big Bang Games? Dark Star Studios?

Hmmm I'm detecting a cosmology theme developing...

I always liked reading posts where who would chimed in. Most of the time it made my day :)

It was probably a bad idea to ask it here anyway because of that same legal trouble :)
guy A asks for name
guy B invents <name>
guy A uses <name>
10 years later, guy A made big bucks with his company called <name>
guy B says "'Sup? Where's my share, yo!"

1. Grab a dictionary
2. Open at random page
3. Eyes closed, poke at a word
4. Append "entertainment", "games", "interactive", "designs" or "technologies"
5. ...
6. profit!

Just to note, my "game label" (not a company as such) is Ass Hat Designs: http://www.asshatdesigns.com
I'm pretty sure nobody is going to sue me for using the same name..

Create the product prototype or demo and worry about the company name later. Are you forming a company or just using a name as a label?

Abyss is the better of the three.

But how about something a little more memorable?
Like:

"Cat Cannon"
"Nine Armed Octopus"
or
"Pink Battle Axe Productions"

:)

LameGame(s) isn't actually that bad of a name :)

I kinda hate most game-company names, one notable exception is CodeMonkeys. I find most of them to be too serious and not enough fun.

Tartarus and Abyss, have we been playing Tales of the Abyss lately? xD

I like Abyssal the best. Another cool one is Abysmal.

Though just to throw it out there, the abyss in general caries a very negative aura. I prefer things that are a little more uplifting... Perhaps like 'Pink Fairy Entertainment' ^_~

You know it's funny that people can invent forum names, but not company names.
