Platforms: Windows & Linux

Windows Download: Clicky Clicky
Size: ~5MB

Linux Download: Clicky Clicky
Size: 5.45MB

Requirements: Any ¼ decent computer should be able to run this well. The Linux version will require you have OpenAL installed. If you do not have OpenAL, you can copy over the one from within the game folder. Copy it directly to somewhere global, such as /usr/lib

About
Bubbles the Fish is one of those games that neither had a purpose or a goal, aside from the fact that I only wanted to spend a week to develop this. The objective of the game is to booze up Bubbles. Collect the falling bottles of beer and rum, but avoid the other dangerous obstacles. As you progress, you'll meet up with a disgruntled captain, so be ready for a pounding. I'm also going to work on a Linux port tonight, so I'll post a link for that later.

There's an easter egg in the game if you can find it ;)

Development
I thought I would also share my development experiences. Give some ideas to others on what tools and resources I used to help complete this project in a timely manner.

I used the following tools:
a) My own game engine.
b) Visual Studio 7.1.
c) Blender for most 2D art.
d) Inkscape to produce some vector art.
e) Adobe Audition 1.5 for editing and recording sounds and music.
f) Cheap Yamaha PSR Keyboard for producing music ;)

Useful Resource Websites:
a) http://www.flashkit.com
b) http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/
c) google ;)

Wow, been so long since I've been able to post here :)

Not too shabby for a weeks worth of work Nut, nice job! I had fun playing it, if you are interested in a friendly opinion then there were a couple of little things that glared for me (but it's prob. just taste and of course...time):

1) The mouth always being open, some animation I think would have really brought the character to life.
2) The rum 'symbol' on the side, is it just me or does it look just a little phallic? lol :)

and finally 3) One hit death from the pirates ship! Lol, I got owned. :)

But all that could just be taste, I love the game and the timeline that you did it in is inspiring. :)

What installer did you use?

Thanks neptune, glad you liked it. There are a couple of things that I feel could be polished too. I might revisit the game in the future and turn it into something more fully featured. Regarding visual similarities to the male reproductive organ... uhh, well I leave that up to the viewers

Eddie, the installer is part of my packaging suite. It's a set of programs that collect a set of files, compress them, store them on the server for distribution, and finally create an installer that will stream the files over the network. It also features game updates, but I haven't made any games yet to take advantage of that.

I just finished porting it over to Linux (see above for details). It went rather smooth except for that damn libjpeg. It took me almost an hour to figure out the jconfig.h file is actually different for windows and Linux and was causing annoying seg faults. Meh, lesson learned ;)

I ran the Linux version on my Laptop (P2.8, Intel Graphics 64MB) and it ran rather choppy. Just thought I'd give this as a heads up to anyone willing to try this out. I think I got lazy with texture management and 64MB is just slightly less than what's needed.

So... when are you going to get back to ACTION-REACTION? I read your docs and then it went on hold. :(

Funny you bring that up because I'm actually getting back to it this weekend. I've been playing a few strategy games this week just to get some ideas. I'll be revising the docs because I have some cool new things I'm going to add. The next two weeks are going to be pretty productive for that game, so it's going to be interesting.
