Sauerbraten is the sequal to Cube so anyone use to the cube engine sould find this just as easy but with a much more visual niceness to it

I think this is a potentially interesting thread (I'm more interested in free modelers/2d art/etc though), but I think it is a bit chaotic with text hidden between large screenshots.

Lazarus, a RAD IDE based on the FreePascal compiler, built on the principled of Delphi and similar projects. It's free, open-source, under heavy and constant development, supports many platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and even WinCE), uses the GNU toolchain so you can interface your C/C++ engine to your Lazarus application with ease and it's perfect for tool development (guess why :-P). You can't get a better tool with this price (or even with a higher price :-P).
