I decided to develope a 3D racing game. I decide use 3D studio Max for modelling and OpenGL for programming. I have no idea how i start for doing this project. What should i use for the game database. Many question marks in my mind. I hope can get ideas from u all. Thank you very much!!

Bad question. If you've no idea how to 'start doing' the project then its too complicated for you. Start off simple then build your knowledge.

Well besides dave's point, which is one you should probably listen too, and start a little bit smaller. It depends on what you know about 3d modeling and opengl aswell as programming in C/C++, As well your going to need an engine, i'd recommend Irrlicht, you could also perhaps, if your proficient in programming use a physics engine such as Newton. But i'd recommend also that you should start on a much smaller project and work your way up, to a racing game. Do a bit of research into racing games and look for open source games.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will try the smaller project first. Gonna ask some questions too. If i use the 3D studio max for modelling. Izzit need a loader for loading the 3D model into the openGL. I know i ask a stupid question but i juz wan to know some knowledges from u all guys. I am doing the research now and decide to starting the project next year. Thx.

Most important thing for you to learn is to use search engines. If you can do that all the information you need is readily available and only few mouse clicks away. It's almost too easy for you guys to get wanted information these days.

If you don't know C++(Or other programming language), it won't be an easy task,You will not be able to create your opengl base from scratch.
Take alook at easy engines Panda3d,Beyond Virtual, etc.

If you have some knowledge of programming, and specially for .Net, you can start by checking Microsoft's XNA. It is a game development framework designed for the hobbyist and small game development teams.

I am a noob in game programming but with XNA I have managed to ubderstand how things work in an easy way...
