This thread used to be for recruiting c++ programmers. However, over the span of the last few weeks, our team has grown immensly and our needs have changed. Please keep that in mind as you read the updated in bold

Team name:
“Online Entertainment Ventures” (not yet, but soon to be registered under my father’s company)

Project name:
Mechnet (3D online MMORPG)

Brief description:
The Mechnet Development Team is looking for dedicated 2d concept artists and 3d modellers to produce models for the upcoming ALPHA release of mechnet. The framework code is ready, and all we need are models for the programmers to test various aspects of the game.

If you do not know all of the above, it would be nice if you guys could refer me to someone who does. So now on to the game:

The main premise of the MMO game is to control a mechanized assault vehicle. Like many games like found on consoles, the player starts of in 3rd person camera controlling a pilot (a human being in the future). The basic storyline behind the game can be found here: <a href="http://www.oev.jeffman.net/mechnet/mechnetstory.html" target="_blank">Mechnet Story Line</a>.
Update: The story line is going through major overhauls, and major additions are happening.

We have many great ideas, and are very open to and other ideas too, and we have extremely wonderful and talented team members who are willing to dedicate their time to the game.

If you are a qualified for the positions, but do not like the game or our ideas, please respond to this post and say so. We are HIGHLY flexible about the game ideas.

Posted by Xevoxe (Mechnet Lead Dev)- Here is part of the <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/xevoxe03/concept.pdf">Concept Sheet</A>. Keep in mind it is still a work in process.

Target aim:
We want this to be an online game, probably an mmorpg

Compensation:
If profits are made, you will get your fair share.

Technology:
Programming: C++ (Ogre3D), Raknet Networking engine, Newton Physics

Talent needed:
3D Artists: Make sci-fi models as requested (with full creativity up to you)
2D Artists: Understand need of models from dev team and create appropriate sketches for the modellers (ie- paying attention to joints mechanics, etc.)

Team structure:
2 Game Developers
4 Programmers
4 3D Modellers (only 2 working on Alpha)
1 2D Modeller
1 Full Time Webmaster (with php/mysql skills...1337 skillz :P)
1 Composer (with Nintendo Wii contract)
2 Writers
1 Public Relations, Research (Very important and overlooked role!)

We have access to dedicated servers, etc. There is no real hierarchy in our company, and we are very open to discussion.

Website:
<a href="http://www.mechnet.co.nr" target="_blank">www.mechnet.co.nr</a> (It’s only temporary)
Update: New website format/content will be up early next week.

Contacts:
acidwillburnyou@gmail.com or reply to this post

Additional Info:
Please note that our game is being developed on a daily basis and is far progressed from what it was when i first posted this thread. We have over 20 team members and the ideas are not short of stopping. Nothing will stop this tea m from making the game. I for one do not tolerate faliure from myself, and so i guarantee this project will continue as planned.

Feedback:
ANY feed back is good, even if you can refer someone to me.

Either respond here, or email me at: acidwillburnyou@gmail.com

Thanks to anyone who replies in advance.

UPDATE: (added some more stuff)

Game Overview

What is the game?
Mechnet is a futuristic, real-time, massive multiplayer online game taking place in the year 2040 and onwards. You are deployed as a fighter for one of four Factions, Southern Forces, Northern Forces, Russia, and Intech, who is to pilot a highly sophisticated Mechanized Personal Assault Vehicle (MPAV). Each Faction has its own strengths and weaknesses, including funding, technological advancement, skills in various conditions, etc. Working together with your fellow troops, you must fight small tactical battles to occupy strategic ground. You can customize your MPAV in anyway you want, including the engine performance, weaponry, defences, and overall look using the credits you earn. Note: All of those not participating in the war have been evacuated to Mars as a precautionary measure agreed upon by all four sides.

Why create this game?
With MMORP games like Runescape littering the gaming landscape, this highly intellectual strategy game will keep users engaged for hours. Hopefully, we can change the image of MMORP games from those that require hours of deliberation and lots of subscription payments, to one that requires careful thinking, planning, teamwork and most of all, skill.

Where does the game take place?
Taking place in 2040 and onwards, Mechnet starts out in war-torn Michigan, USA. Four Factions fight to take control of land, as the war spreads out of the state to a global scale.

What do I control?
As a first time player in a game, you will start of as a mechanic for a Faction, learning about the highly sophisticated MPAVs your team controls. You will perform basic tasks to familiarize you with the vehicles. After you have reached a certain point of proficiency (beginner’s tutorial is finished), you will enter the Faction ranks as a ‘Pilot’. You will receive funding for a basic MPAV from your faction and some money for repairs. Your platoon sergeant will assign you into some small, low risk battles, from which you can prove yourself and earn credits. Using these credits, you can upgrade your MPAV regarding engine performance, weaponry, defenses, overall look and more. When you are ready, your sergeant will draft you into the main war. At this point, you are fully engaged in combat and only your skill and instincts will keep you alive. Along the way you will be eligible for Faction rank promotions (higher ones may need subscription).

How many characters do I control?
If you are a mechanic or pilot in a Faction, you will only control your own character. However, as you progress in the Faction ranks, you will lead small to large platoons and squadrons of MPAVs in various missions and battles. You will always report to your superiors and discuss the bigger picture with them. In this fashion, the main objective will be achieved, as they will regularly brief you. The more you play the game, the more experience you will gather. And just as it is in real life, you will also control more.

What is the main focus?
The main focus of the game is to work with your fellow comrades and attempt to occupy as much land as possible, and fortify it. This will benefit your Faction’s economy and help you put up a better resistance against enemies.
