depends on what part u want:
u can do the script/gameplay think out a story, design characters
or there is art work designing levels, models, textures, music
then there is coding

or u can over see the project play a project manager, get ppl to do the above stuff and motivate them to do it.

i'd bet u want to do it all by ur self, so storyline and artwork can wait.
learn how to program in c, get really good at it, then do the same with c++.
then u can learn CG using openGL /DirectX.

then i'd say make a clone of tetris.
By that time u'd get a hint of whats required to make 'wonderful games'.

have funn...bye.

666DarkCloud,

Don't let anyone rain on your dreams. Learning C and C++, and creating a tetris style game are the typical basic steps for someone who wants to be a programmer, or to program a game engine. However, these steps have NOTHING to do with learning how to make a wonderful game. . .or even a good game. Just how to program, and blit things to the screen.

Anyway, since you are a beginner, click this link to get started:

Reality Factory

Here you will find a terrific place to get started on creating your dreams. A community of people who don't care if you have never created a game ANYTHING in your life, or have ever written a line of code. These folks will help you out.

This is the forum. Click the logo up in the left hand corner to go to the homepage. You'll find links to the Reality Factory downloads, demos, tutorials resources. It is totally free for everyone, and it's the perfect place for you to go.

I am steven8 the 2nd there, and I hope to see you soon.
