Hey guys!
First off, you may have heard of Sylorn somewhere here or on another forum. If not that's fine, if you did, it's different now. It's a new MMORPG made by a couple of friends and myself. When I say that, it sounds like a very slack, unorganised project- but trust me, we're putting every ounce of our effort into getting this game done as soon as we can at the best quality. Oh, and did I mention it's going to be ultra-original? :D Read this post I made on our forums at www.sylorn.com .

Sylorn is:
Throughout this I will use many terms that some people may not be familiar with, but RPG and MMORPG fans will know straight-off- if you fit the latter group, this game is definately what you've finally been looking for, if you are the prior, you're going to love every euphoric moment in the world of Sylorn.
In Project: Sylorn, our first, clear-cut aim is Originality. I have personally strolled through the webs that make the internet, and looked at indie* MMORPG** games, and why they have stopped production or are going down a steep curve to failure. Some of the games look great. But we're all sick of the typical MMORPG: Mining/Woodcutting ability, Orcs/Humans/Elves/Undead, Mage/Priest/Warrior etc, aren't we? The answer is almost certainly Yes. These features make the game ADDICTIVE, and FUN to play. In fact, you need them to have your typical MMORPG. However, the downfall is this: all the indie* games are the SAME! They're all identical. They offer nothing new- just another MMORPG.
Sylorn, my friends, is different. As I started off with- we STRIVE to make our game different. Sure, we'll follow the rules, we'll make some classes and some races and some abilities the same as other games, but we're not going to make 'the biggest map ever' (we may make bigger), we're not going to make 'realistic environments' (we're making colourful, exciting, well-rendered*** environments that are eye-candy to look at, but not cartoony), and we will be different! Not the 'How the hell do I play this, this is such a wierd game' different, but 'Wow! This is so similar to the other games I play but it is a) more fun and b) offers so much more to do and c) there are so many more features!'
So we have a lot to live up to? Not really. We will try our DAMN hardest to bring our loyal fans the BEST possible game- better than Everquest or World of Warcraft in that we are a small friendly community. Can you have a one-on-one personal chat with the founder of the MMORPG World of Warcraft? Probably not. My doors will always be open- whether I'm earning my millions or (preferably) still on floor 1 with you guys earning nothing, I'm still here to chat, give inspiration, and even suggest ideas to make your own game.
Let the Sylorn Experience Begin!!!

Definitions:
*Indie: Short for independant. It basically means a small group, rarely a proper company, who do not have access to excessive funds - or any at all in some cases. They are usually understaffed or close to that and production is very slow. That's my definition and it may not be 100% correct. Smile
**MMORPG: Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Massively Multiplayer Online basically means it's a game that has huge potential to let thousands of players play at the same time- talk to each other, fight each other, trade, quest together, online. Role Playing Games are games like World of Warcraft where there's a bit of history behind you and you play as a character exploring his or her own environment, learning more about their world, etcetera through quests and NPC's (which are computer-bots, Non-Player-Characters).
Well-Rendered: Rendering refers to the stage in making 3D graphics where you save the actual model to a useable file, rather than in the editor. In this case it refers to the quality of the model/graphic.

What experience do you have at making games?

2 years professional C++ training, private OpenGL practice, and heaps of other programming languages such as Java and Visual Basic that I've learnt through books and other random online books.
We're using an engine that is basically a drag-and-drop click-to-build environment, which means we can create a simple game within 2 weeks, and once we have that, we can add items, quests, and all. :D Thanks for asking.
