What platform do they use? Reason I am curious is I would like to use that or a similiar platform so that I can run one server rather than multiple ones. I have played the game for the last 3 years but can find very little documentation on thier technical side of things.

Thank you in advance for any information you might have

They have a number of networked servers, from what I know. Some servers run many systems (like in 0.0 where there's often no-one there) and some run only one or two systems (like.. was it rens that was a big one? apparently jita is the busiest now, but it was yulai when I played).

Other than that I don't know. I imagine they're tight lipped for a reason :).

Yeah the mechanics I know all about they are using 70 or so blade servers. What I want to know is what Engine are they using to run the game in otherwords the software portion.

Thanks again

Do you want to actually host an EVE Online server, or do you want to use their engine to create your own game server? If it is the former, then are you asking about reverse-engineering their proprietary software?

I would be using my own game, but I want to try to use the same idea one game server rather than a bunch of clones that you cant travel to with your avatar. I like thier concept and have been very happy with the way they deal with lag from a player perspective thus my interest in what engine they are running or what similiar ones there are out there. As of now they are running anywhere from 12k to 25k or so on the one over all game server. I can see some reall possibilities in this and some down sides ofcourse but I feel the positives out weight the negatives.

Thanks again

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I imagine CCP built the server engine from scratch. All I know is that they make extensive use of Stackless Python.

I believe Eve online use an unorthadox system. apparently they have a server for chat, a server for stations, a server for trade and so on...
Where as most other MMOs have all nodes the same in their cluster Eve has them job specific, which is slightly more complicated.
