Dear members,
I’m an Italian student of computer science from Milan doing a research
about "Immersive 360 videos".
Due to the lack of information and your experience in graphic programming i decided to open this topic.
I'd like to develop a small opengl or directx software (or join someone
who was doing something similar) for mapping panoramic video in different ways
and environments to get the immersive view, but I’ve not a great
experience so maybe you can tell me where I can find some code and/or
information about.
Something like an inverse environment mapping: create the sorrounding image from the flat texture.
The starting frames are taken by hyperbolical mirrors, by fisheye lens or
they are plane panoramic unwarped frames (with spherical projection).
I need to create a VR environment (sphere, cylinder, cube…), and then map-warp the video on
it, so i'd like to know all the ways to map on those shapes and maybe how to trasform form the starting projection to the final one.
Last but not least have the possibility to manage the video in different ways (lancos, bilinear resizing..)
All that in order to find out the best environment and map technique
valued with the hw resource request and the final frame rate.
Grateful for any help, related reflection, code, hint, publication
links and friends that want to help me in developing.
Teo
