Ok, I am looking for a good engine to make a MMORPG, must have 3D graphics, must be a good price if need buying it. But have good
graphics, similar to WoW, unreal engine 3, or bigworld, maybe even RO2(they use unreal engine 2.5 speaking of which how much is it.)

I am currently using RealmCrafter but its not that great, Blitz3D doesnt pleases me to well.

I am currently opening a gaming company, so I will be earning some $ that might be able to pay for something things.

Just some other things, would be a + if the engine has it:

If there's a thing I don't understand... It's not why are we here... Or why the Earth is round... But rather - why people won't just use the Devmaster 3d engine database instead of asking others to do it for them? :wallbash:

Being an amateur with limited knowledge of programming and problems with understanding issues such as Taylor series I still can whip something out with Crystal Space, which means the engine is not entirely newbie-hostile. Give it a try, I say. If you want better graphics, use OGRE. They're both listed in the best 10 engines ranking, along with some others. There's one MMORPG in the making that's using Crystal Space.
I want to make a game as good as Elder Scrolls oblivion with no programming, just point&click. If it's not possible, I want a team of programmers I'd be able to order around. After all, I'm a n00b.

Those cost a lot. Can you afford that much ($350,000 for unreal 2)? If not, aim lower.

you know theres people out their that will pay for you to make your game but you have to put their stuff all over your product. Theres loans. Dude im not even in college yet lol, i'm sure I can save up to that. hmmm... maybe I can get back into the tv business, make some $ then use it to buy the unreal or big world engine, i got the best idea for a game while taken a test in lit class. i hope it works out good.

The 3D engine part is only half of your problem, when it comes to MMORPGs
your probably going to want to get a couple books on network programming
which can be a nightmare in itself, then you've got database programming
so you'll want to sharpen your skills in PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQLite.

MMORPGs are quite server intensive as well so you'll probably want to get yourself
familar with developing in a Linux environment so go get a distrobution to
play around with (I suggest Mandriva) and start playing around with GCC.

It's really amazing how the admins can put up with these ridiculous newbie questions and liars on a daily basis.

One thing is for sure: jjd (and possibly Cobra) are far from being professionals.

You are not even in college yet, and still trying to do something which takes big companies for years and millions of dollars to achieve.. You might be talented but you also have to realize that this is probably out of your reach at this moment, and you would probably be better off to start off with something more simpler, you could actually finish.

It may not be 3D but I would imagine it would be just as easy to (possibly easier since you don't have to deal with the annoyances that come with isometric programming) providing you know what an Octree is.

The core team itself consists of maybe three or four members and one developer.

http://www.planeshift.it/helpus.html

It may not be the fanciest MMORPG around but hell its still as independant as ever.

Besides this "MMORPG n00b" as you call him hasn't given many details, he
might be looking at different engines available that his teammates can use.

My advice: Be professional, respectful, and get to the point.

Prozac, thanks. This thread needs to calm down - jjd don't post just to provoke other members, especially when they want to learn and we can point them in the right way.

When using expensive middleware the price is rarely paid for by the developer. Typically the publisher will foot the bill. Provided you can persuade them to give you a free trial. They wont give it to you if you're just an MMO noob like kisuka

Unless you are planning to sink a good chunk of money into a proven MMORPG engine (e.g. bigworld), I suggest you stay with Realm Crafter. Yes, its blitz3d and dx7 technology but anything else you can get your hands on for that price is going to be far behind in maturity. Realm Crafter still has some work to be done before it's ready for prime time but it's getting there. The technology should really not be that much of a limiting factor when it comes to eye candy. Some maybe.. but still.. the quality of your models and textures and imagination play the biggest role in visual quality. So even with the latest graphics technology built in, if your art is not great, it does you no good.

Another thing to consider is the fact that Realm Crafter 2 will exist someday and that will be built upon much newer technology.
