I'm about to start work on my exam work...but I have no idea what to do.
I guess it "might" have to incorporate distributed system and/or databases.
But I'd like to do something in the field of game/gfx programming.

Any suggestions?
I'd Appreciate any!

Cheers!

Suitability of databases for persistant storage of large-scale world geometry ?
Pros / Cons in contrast to traditional file based approaches.

(Large-scale meaning in the order of Oblivion or WoW)

Of course, you also need to have some way to visualize your world geometry...

If you want to rather focus on distributed systems, either do something with distributed rendering (one client, several (software-)based computers building one frame), or go for synchronizing game state over several game servers.

Just my ideas, I currently am in a similiar situation as you are :)

Cheers,

I'll be damned. That's a mighty fine title for a thesis there.
I thank you deeply!

I just sent in a proposal; "Automatic Computer Generation of Primates".
It will hardly get accepted, but I had to try. I even added a suitability test for
storing the parameters in a DB...to get it to relate to it in some way.

When (not if) I get the rejection I'll start writing a proposal of your suggestion.

Thx again!

I've already made something called AlienCreator...so why not.

Anyway, the gorilla-suggestion was rejected. But not for being a stupid idea (which I thought should have been the reason) but they thought that I wouldn't be able to make it in 10 weeks and that it would be hard for them to judge the work.
So they sent a proposal of their own, that I might as well take. Something to do with touch screens and getting oriented in a shop. Beats me where the DB and the dist sys gets into that topic.

So anyway, many thanks for all of your suggestions.

Since when does one take only 10 weeks to do a bachelor's thesis?!

Sorry, should have had "Location: Sweden" in my profile. :wallbash:

The degree is called Kandidat over here and it's the closest to Bachelor you get. But then again, the question is still valid since students very rarely finish it in time...
