Dear all,

I was looking for animated character for a game-training program. It has been difficult to find free resources, so I decided to model my own character in Maya. However I do not want to spend too much time animating it.

My question is: what tool (plug-in or standalone application) you recommend to animate my low poly character? Basically only walk and idle cycles.

I already found some free Mocap files and I just want to drag and drop them into my model. I will rig in Maya

This tool has not to be too expensive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks. I will check it. The advantage of this plug-in is my mocap files are BVH.

Thanks again

NP :)

If you have time, post back your results. I will be looking to do something similar in the next couple of months and would love to hear any ups and downs.

Cheers

You can't beat Maya for it's animation tools, but...
if you want something super easy, very inexpensive, and is intended for animating low poly characters for games, then give "FragMotion" a try. I don't have it's address handy, but if you google for it you'll find it. I think it goes for $25, and I used it for a couple of characters a few months ago for a low budget game. It imports BVH as well as .X and a number of other game formats.

I watched a few Maya videos (i don't have enough money to buy it), and the new Maya 7 animation tools look great. Plus, you can import the models into MotionBuilder (also from Autodesk).
