This story is a few months old but i just saw it yesterday and Im feeling a little ranty right now so...
anyway, 2 kids were firing a rifle on a highway or something and they hit someone "by accident" and the guy died. The kids are saying that they didnt mean to hurt anyone and that they were inspired by grand theft auto to do what they did. Now take two is being sued for making the game. WalMart is being sued for selling the game and sony for just being sony .

The lawyer that is handling the case is one that has put blame on the videogame industry in the past as well. What does this have to do with videogames anyway? Can you sue the gun maker for making the gun? or sue the kids parents for making the kids? It's ridiculous. If you ask me the parents are the ones that should be sued if for anything. They should've been aware of what their children were buying and playing. GTA is clearly rated M. That means mature which is *usually* 17/18+ Which these teens were clearly not.

What is this world coming to where people dont even take responsibility for their own actions? :sigh: [/rant]

Also now maybe a class action could take place :/

should i ever have to kill sombody i'll take the time and kill a few other people and later on claim that i'm mad and that the video game industry sent me on a killing spree :)

i played pretty violent games ( including gta ) and watched many violent movies and i never wanted to kill somebody just because i was bored. from that i conclude that these kids must have been pretty disturbed beforehand.
where did they get the guns from ???

This is really disturbing though. Then I could do almost anything stupid and blame it on something or the other. I dont think there is a crime I can think that I cant blame on a game, or a movie, or even a sport of some kind. I bet I could blame a bunch of crimes as being inspired by how george bush is tackling terror too! What then? Can I sue the president of the usa?

Michael Moore's doco... asks some interesting questions in that debate... Im not sure if it was as popular in (northen) america as it was here. He isnt exactly unbiased.. and does tend to over simplify... but still def worth watching.

i don't think much of him ( stupid white men is plainly "shit" ). bowling for columbine was great though. he is great at driving people nuts. he doesn't say one word to the people he interviews to provoke them. they all talk the stupid shit themselves :)
he's also great a making connections in the peoples minds without saying it loud.
what i hate about him is what i take as his strange form of irony. in his book he writes : "no black man has ever done anything evil" or in the movie : "canada is such a great place", etc. he tries to create an image that is totally untrue ( canada is heaven comapred to the us, but still :) ) and compares other things to that image.

Yeah, I know what you mean... but it seems to me that hes doing that on purpose in the movie.. forinstance.. he starts by saying that the media callosly manipulates us.. and then (ironically) does the same. (which bring up the question, if we know we are being manipulated, can we stop it?)

I cant wait to goto Canada! last Jan was so much fun :)

moore does great work. he fights against the way the us get controlled with their own weapons.

oh, and canada IS a great place! espencially for the us civilians, it is sort of "heaven" :D

i had beautiful holidays overthere.. just the part where i went to the us was terrible.. :D "would you like to do or plan any sort of terroristic attack against the us? if you answer with yes, don't even ask why you possibly don't get into the us" "would you like to steal a us child and move it out of the us? if you answer with yes... etc"..
that's just SO CRAZY shit..:D

buy or download or whatever do to watch "bowling for columbine" and you know him very well..

he is a regisseur who got an oscar for that movie

most people don't know his first movie : roger and me. that is a must see for everybody who liked bowling for columbine. still he is very artifical. "shame on you mr. bush" that might be some form of protest in the us but i regard it as total self promotion. he clearly does not stand behind the ideals he presents in his movies. he himself isn't poor. in fact he owns serveral houses all over america, he has been big in the tv business, etc.
anyway, roger and me is a movie about moores hometown flint, michigan which got totally fucked over by gm back in the 80's. from one day to the other the whole population was unemployed, etc. it's a very sensitive movie about the tragedy of flint. it's much less "pop" than bfc. there is no german version so i can't buy it here :(

I agree, you do have to take everythign he says with a grain of salt... You just have to remember that he profits from this as well. But thats life, and doesnt make it any less interesting - just more complicated.
