Perhaps try something like Game Maker ... or why not Flash... it's a good "first" time experience and a light weight programming experience giving you some time to adjust to programming. What you need to understand about game programming/development is that it will require a lot of knowledge to come together.. not just hardcore programming but also a lot of fundamental knowledge of design, maths, algorithms, arts ... this have to be built up. So start small and go bigger ... but don't lose you imagination.. think big but start small..! Good luck guys!

Hey man, I too am 15 and with my buddies make a few games. I have been programming for awhile now (although definetly not as long as most people) and I can say it is possible to be done, although it does require lots of math, time, and overall frustration.
I would recommend to you to either make a mod for another game. Or if you really want to at least get some programming done go for python.
Also it is smart to go for (i believe somebody else posted this) gamemaker, and then if you get tired with that go on to make 3d games with realityfactory (free), darkbasic (not free but not expensive), or something like blitzbasic (kind of expensive for us 15 year olds)
I wish you the best of luck and I must say take your time (always one of my problems) im sure someday you'll be in charge of some game company.

Nice to see so many people interested in making games. I'm 16, just slightly older than you, and my friends and I are trying to make a game as well. I also recommend Game Maker. That's really where I started to learn how to make games. I later learned Visual Basic and created an RPG in it. Not the best graphics in the world but it was some good experience. I decided to get a team together so that I could make even better games. My friend happened to be studying Graphics Design and art so we got together along with some other friends and started a new project. Make sure you really organize things before you start actually making the game. For example, right now we're creating a story, drawing some concept art, and toying around with what type of game we can make.

Ryri3: Sorry, do you want to make games, or just design them?

If you want to design them, then a pen and paper is all you need.

If you want to make games, then you'll have to do the following:

1) Learn your maths. Geometry, algebra and pure mathematics are what you need, as well as vector/matrix math (Which I was never taught at school, funnily enough, so it's self-learning for you, if Scotland is the same as England).

2) Learn a programming language. I started at 12 with BASIC on the Spectrum +2, which was useless for making games. It was only until I dabbled with C/C++ that I could make anything resembling a "game". Learn some basic APIs that let you draw stuff on the screen (I recommend OpenGL, or even Game Boy Advance programming for this. I skipped Windows GDI programming, it'd put most learners off).

3) GO WILD! And be prepared to be learning every day.

I hope you want to make games, and not just design them. Because we hate designers. :P

HI
Learn to Walk before You Run.
first you must learn any programming language (c++) it will be dull at because of all the Console working and nothing will be interesting but after 3 months of learning any programming language you will find yourself automatically going for larger concpts GUI,databases, etc and learning another programming language will be very easya, then you can start with game programming with Torque for example it is very easy or you can start with modding a game.
i hope that i have helped.
thanks
bye

Just like you, I'm a virgin(when it comes to programming, that is), though I'm 23 years old  . I did some coding in the past, mostly Object Pascal, C, and scripting languages, but only recently decided to pick C++ and assorted APIs. Now, if you're in for a quick start, drop by THESE sites:

www.realityfactory.ca - a toolkit for creating games - all range of: from fps to adventures. Good for a start.

irrlicht.sourceforge.net - before I found this page, one of my unfulfilled dreams was to write simple application that lets you move about 3d environmnent. Thanks to excellent, clean API of this engine, and decent tutorials available on their site, it became reality. Now it's time to move on to serious tasks.

Obligatory reading: "Programming in C++" by Bjorne Stroustrup, the very creator of the language. For quick reference, drop by:

www.cplusplus.com and www.cppreference.com

Good luck!
