In short, nothing’s impossible; only improbable. With the right team and proper experience, anything is doable. Although I’d just like to say that it sounds like you want to make an RTS game more than an MMO one. Just make sure you know what you want before you jump in.

If you have to ask, then no, you can't.

... A bit heartless there stodge.

valvancogswell: I think what stodge is trying to say, is that yes, it's *possible* you can do these things (after all, games do exist that are MMO's and what you want to do is not completely ridiculously far fetched).

The only thing that's limiting you is your skill, and/or desire. I don't know much about you so I can't say that "Yup, you, [your-name-here], can do it.". Conversely, I can't say the opposite.

You'll have to assess your skills and eagerness to do this, and then either succeed or fail on your own merit.

But what you're asking to do is not impossible.

If it's entirely text based and everyone just has a name and a level then it would even be easy. You could do the whole thing in HTML, PHP, & MySQL and call it a day. ;)

I speak the truth - if you had listed technical information, design ideas, functionality and more than just a couple of sentences with no grammar or punctuation, I would have said yes, it is possible. But considering you probably don't know how to program, then I'm guessing you really should start with something a lot smaller.

@stodge:

You're more than likely correct. I'm betting the OP has little to no experience programming, but this is just a hunch. That said, your original post comes across a little cruel. In your second post you fault him for having a post that is no "more than just a couple of sentences with no grammar or punctuation", and yet you originally reply in a one sentence ad hominem attack.

Your second post clears things up a bit better, however, at least giving him a reason as to why there might be difficulties for him. However I don't think anyone deserves to be told they can't do anything if you don't have enough direct information to assert that it's true. Particularly if you can't even do it in a constructive way.

Yeah. Also, I think Stodge was right to say that. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. D'you know what I mean? The guy needed to ask whether creating that MMO game was possible, that means he obviously doesn't know much at all about game development, which in turn means he shouldn't start an MMO project of this depth.

It also means he is too lazy to do some preliminary research before posting his question.

Syntactic sugar is good. :-)

Yes, you probably should. There is no need to be so rude, even though (I think) I understand what you mean.

Yeah, I agree with stodge totally, It sounds to me like hes one of them n00bs who play an MMO and think, I wish you could do this or that, it'd be way cooler... I know, ill make my own!
so heres your to do list:
1. learn to program
2. get a graphic designer or learn to do graphics
3. get a few hundy to get the game running
4. study economy
5. have fun!

Is it a massively-multiplayer Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament simulator?
