Team name:
3DMUVE amateur development team

Project name:
STARQuest

Brief description:
An engine/framework for a new genre MMOPG offering the building blocks to let players evolve without dictating any particular gaming requirements, and a world so large that a single planet could truly be the size of a real planet and if doing sci-fi, the ability to have a near limitless number of planets, galaxies, moons, etc. The real differentiator is instead of a particular genre, the MUVE engine will pull together many genres and allow players to focus on the ones they enjoy while sharing the gaming experience with other friends and gamers they might not otherwise get to play with.

STARQuest is a futuristic world with thousands of galaxies and tens of thousands of planets. Players evolve into teams and are responsible team resources to empower their clan as they see fit. Some clans may steal, others may trade, others will mine. Some players might focus on marine combat, others on space flight and others on diplomacy. The focus is not on the individual, nor is it on leveling, but instead focused on building a strong clan.

Target aim:
Staged development with an initial freeware component and depending on interest level etc… we’ll see what happens.

Compensation:
This is just for fun and learning. If more results then that’s great for whoever the team is at that time, but for now, this is just a hobby.

Technology:
Client: Windows PC (maybe eventually Xbox), DirectX, Internet, C++.
Server: Linux, C++, Oracle Database

Talent needed:

Immediate need: C++ DirectX Developers
o .X class to manage models and animation

o Lighting/Shading

o collision detection

--- Many of these have been done but need to be re-worked/cleaned up

Eventual need: 3D Modeling, 3D Animation, Texture Artist, Concept Artist, Musicians

Team structure:

Lead Designer, Architect and 3D Programmer
Development: Steve Ponomarev: 14+ years development

Just to let you know, this is not gamedev.net. There is no template for help requests; just say what you think is important. :)

Project looks very promising, from the sounds of it there is a lot of work to be done there, I hope you find what you are looking for. With the amount of expereince you guys have, you should have more than enough people showing interest I'm sure.

@ProgramWizard: I'm pretty sure the OP knows where he is posting. The GameDev template is a real bonus when posting (I mayself have followed the GameDev template when posting for help), and I hope it continues to be used on here

SpreeTree and ProgramWizard: I agree with you SpreeTree, the template is a nice format, and I just felt it was a clean and more professional way of announcing the project and requesting some help. I don't want to be anti-gamedev, it's been one of the best resources I've used for DirectX and 3D programming. I hope the general feeling here isn't anti-gamedev.

Please excuse ProgrammingWizard. He's still smarting from his recent banning from the GameDev forums.
The project looks interesting (and the post is well formatted  ). I've been focusing on OpenGL for my hobbiest endeavors. Good luck with the project though!

We're still looking for one or two more quality coders to join our project. Are there really no takers out there?

Just some feedback, your list doesn’t contain any webmasters. While your website is ok, it wouldn’t hurt to find someone to spruce it up =)

I'm agree with SpreeTree. Your project is really very promising. Your problem is common for all indie and hobby projects. It is hard to find people with required qualification and enough spare time. But I'm sure you'll find someone.

Why don't you just say you are trying to write a 3d engine? I don't see any gameplay elements. No AI, no controls, no gameplay. Reimplementing 3d graphics is great, but with all the answers online and in books and open source, you really don't need to be recruiting for help on that.

 It's not about the 3D engine. Yes I need help, on the 3D engine, on the game engine, on the interface, on the networking, on just about all aspects. But the point is, working alone or in a very small group limits your ability to brainstorm. It's nice to discuss the work with other people and bounce ideas off each other. It's also nice to have someone else working on some code so you can see the results come together that much faster.

This is about making friends, having a hobby, and enjoying the development for development sake.

If you don't want to join that's fine, but please don't question the ethics or validity of any of this.

On a side note, I've developed a new video of the latest terrain system. If any of you want to see it please go here:

 CobraLionz  has an abrasive way of posting; don't let him get to you. He does bless us with usefull insights ever now and then.
His argument is baseless anyway. After all, you even called it an engine in your description!

I've enjoyed reading about STARQuest, and as a result of your other post, Infinity. Good luck finding help.

Well we can't all be interested in MMORPGs and thats a good thing. Gotta have some FPS, RPG, and puzzle guys out there.

And since I'm posting in this thread, its only fair that I address the original post... This sounds like it would be a great project to join. If I had the time on my hands, I would definately be showing some interest.

After looking at the video, I may have to find some extra time on my hands.
