We need an isometric forum. Isometrics isn't dead. Lots of games still use it and I feel that a lot of people, especially beginners, like to aim for isometrics.

Just ask your question in the forums here, nothing here says anything about 3d only, it's just what most people are doing. We also dont have a forum for modding MUDs made from August through November of 1997, but that doesnt mean you cant bring one up :)

True, though Iso's all I'm good at. I like to try to answer questions. It's easier to find the posts I can help with if they are categorized.

We don't get so many posts a day that you have to look. It is fairly easy to see all posts of a day.

You might even broaden your horizons reading the other posts anyway :)

I would agree with the addition of an isometric graphics forum. The reason there isn't many posts here about isometrics is because there ins't one. All the people who like isometrics go to other forums that do have them. Isometrics are cool, and I like it more than 3D.

Just because there isn't a specific isometric subforum doesn't mean there is no place for it at all. There isn't a network forum as well, yet network-specific topics do exist on gamedev.net devmaster.net (see http://www.devmaster...read.php?t=5818 for a recent example). So your argument proves nothing.

Isometric questions will be perfectly fine in the "Graphics theory & programming" subforum, no one claims that that subforum is solely for 3d graphics (as a matter of fact, the description line reads: "This forum is for discussion of all aspects of 2D and 3D graphics theory and programming").

But I see at least two people interested in isometrics (you and the topicstarter). If an isometric subforum is to be created, it'll need to be filled with content as well; questions don't come by themselves. So I suggest you two start off with an interesting discussion/question regarding isometrics in Graphics Theory & Programming :)

I am ONLY interested in top-down and isometric topics. This is not only a reflection of my interests (which involve realistic expectations of a 1-2 man game company) but as a function of how I can spend my time on forums. I have tons of isometric forum bookmarks.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that often confuses gamedev.net and devmaster.net :)

As far as I'm concerned, the ideal situation would be one forum, where you could easily browse through topics, and pick out the ones you're interested in. However, that's not practical so we categorise things up, but the fewer categories the better. There's no point that I can see in splitting up a forum that gets a couple of new topics a day, into a forum that gets a couple of new topics a day, and one that gets a topic every week or two.
