He meant
www.blender.org
The site he mentioned contains samples where blender has been used (as far as I can tell)

Blender is free for use yet very professional. You can use it for games, movies and the like. You can even create a game completely with blender alone.

On the topic of Maya vs 3d Studio Max I prefer Maya. It depends on the user really, each product does what it was designed to do. If you are looking for cheaper 3d tools try Milkshape and blender.

My personal preference is LightWave 3D. If you are going for a commercial 3D package, it costs less but has all of the features the others do, plus its built-in renderer does animation without motion artifacts. LightWave 3D has won more Oscars and Emmys than any other package. Visit the Newtek website for a list of all the tv shows, movies, and games it has been used for ( http:\\www.newtek.com ).

would you like tea or coffee? i want lemonade. :)

IMHO Maya is better i am not talking about features but in the flexiblity of use,i did not get compfortable with using MAX, cinema4d nor Softimage.

i don't know why but i was using blender and wings3d and silo3d and i found the the imegration from one of them is easier to Maya than MAX.

thanks

On a side note...Autodesk (3dsmax) just bought Alias (Maya)... so... I think the comparaison between both will end pretty soon ;)

True, Francois, but I doubt one of the products will disappear in a very short amount of time, I think that the two products will slowly become one.

yeah that's what I've heard also, or maybe one will take more of a movie path where the other one will mainly focus on games... we'll see

Well, I think that this is not the place to post a question like this, but, anyway, I think it's just a matter of witch soft are you more comfortable with.

As you can see it is tuff to get a concrete input about witch tool to use.

- for graphics and animation
Pretty much every tool can handle this

- for scripting additional tools
Pretty much every tool can handle this

- <put in requested functionality>
Pretty much every tool can handle this

Just make sure you know your tool and you will be fine :)

I think the main question is how professional do you want it and how much money do you want to spend on it?
The most likely answer would be: as professional as possible and spend as little money as possible.
From this point of view blender really is a good choice :)

As far as I can tell the pros rather use maya where as the hobby coder rather use max and the main reason for this is a money issue as well.

If it comes to flexibility and customising the tool to your needs you are probably happier with maya. It’s just a guess though since I read more about maya when it comes to gamedev.

I suggest three things:
- visit the web-pages for both and look witch seams friendlier to you
- ask the same question on a 3d modelling site instead in a programmer’s forum
- ask yourself how much money you can spend on it
