The Edit button pops-up "Edit/Delete message" but...

there doesn't seem to be a way to delete. I saw this as an opportunity to change the subject and content and mention this problem.

I don't think users should be allowed to delete their own posts.

With posts you could get the same effect as editing out all the content. I can see your point with topics.

If you ever do need to delete a double post, you can report it to a moderator and we'll delete it for you.

True, but you aren't allowed to edit after a certain timespan. Of course, you can just as well set this rule for deleting posts as well... but deleting a post leaves a gap and no one knows it was there in the first place. By editting away the content, people reading the topic can at least guess what posts other people are replying to.
