I hav a little experience with C++ programming, and am planning to setup a startup with a few friends. What engine would you recommend that we use?
We're not rich so we're looking for something with reasonable cost with a generic design.

Does anyone who will be using it have experience with using engines before? If so, they should choose.
Otherwise, we need more details.

I think Torque is the generic answer. Others may have different suggestions though.

i don't recommend TGE for you case because you don't have experiance with game design or general applications design.
The engine you must start with must be well designed to gain as much experiance as possible from the code, TGE is not well deigned yes you can make games easly but you will need very good experiance to start modifing the core engine.
i recommend Nebula device 2 or Ogre for the good OO design.

Well we're composed of one 3d artist, one 2d artist, two programmers, and a music artist. The engine we're looking for is one that will teach us about game creation since we're just now entering the game industry.
We're also interested in the design of game engines, so engines that include source are good so we can learn how to write a game engine based off of their code
