Someone should write a guide to making RPG/Adventure games. You can start with making text-based and then move up to 2-D then finally up to 3-D or link it to the MMORPG page. You could include how to make characters, items, parties, inventories, and everything needed to make one of those tyoes of games. This would be really helpful to us newbies who want to get into making RPGs.
If there is one of these then please go ahead and delete this topic and pm me with the link.

Stemming from this, a series focusing on the data management/AI side of RPGs (ie everything but the interface/graphics) - towns, people, items ect.

I've always thought the best way to do this would be for someone to write an analysis of Nethack. THe source is freely available, and it's a time honored and proven game. It's also a reasonably complex project, which would give newbies some idea of what they're getting into when they start mumbling about MMOGs.

Yeah something along that line. I think it would take a little of the topics off of the forums because most people want to make RPGs. If you make a guide then people will know the steps and if you start with the most basic of RPGs(text) and say you need to know how to make these before you move up then people will give it a try and stop aiming so high.

I'll think this over for a couple days. It's a big commitment to make for me right now, and my free time is at a premium, and with a kid on the way, that's not likely to change any time soon. I agree though, that it would be an invaluable asset to the community.

I will take it upon myself to write a tutorial on how to create a text-based RPG. If it goes well I will go into 2d Iso.

I think I might write a guide like this for 2D RPG's. :) I'm currently writing a 2D RPG so it'd fit in pretty well, and writing this could help motivate me in my own project.
