With all this hype about the Xbox 360 and yada yada, I thought it would be interesting to research the possibility of Console Development. I theorise it would be possible to take simple computer hardware, make a simple computer then program an Operating System that when a cd is entered, it triggers a program on the CD which runs the game...

Just an Idea i might follow through on as I have some background in OS dev. Any comments?

For nowaday's consoles, you're going to re-write linux/*bsd/whatever. The amount of driver support ect.. would just be too great. You're better off buying a build-your-own console kit, or just using the PC gaming platform.

Still, there's nothing stopping you from having a go.

There is an XBOX SDK
Gameboy Advanced (or all?) is in C
thats all i know off the top of my head

You see, i am not modifying an existing console, i am developing my own console, taking PC hardware, hopefully finding a way to rewrite a bios and building an OS over the top to run the games...

Like with programming, you need a set of beginner tutorials to start you off.

The abov elink is to Andre Lamoths Xgamestation...You'll want to start on that before fiddling around yourself... :happy:
