Hello everyone, I am a complete noob when it comes to programing, i have been in computers for a while, and i am interested in programing games. Last year i recieved a book from my mom, "C++ in 24 Hours". I am not stupid enough to believe that i can read and understand it in 24 hours. I was wondering if you guys could give me some hints on getting new material and tutorials and things of that sort to help me go through this book and understand it. right now i am in chapter 5 and it is on functions and it is a little difficult. I under stand the main Idea but it is hard to hold onto. Any help would be great. I want to reach a point where i can start programing games and i dont understand how you can take code and create grafics and that kinda thing, any encouragement would be nice.
thanks everyone.

You have three 'levels' of learning ahead of you:
  • Learn the language
  • Learn the apis
  • Learn the theory
To learn the language, read & practice. Practice as much as possible what you read. So, compile lots of function examples, and it'll be so much clearer. There are lots of C++ resources on the internet, and lots of good books to, for example Effective C++ [on my to-read list :)]

When you get on to learning APIs, you'll see the magic of how games are made with code. Then you'll realise that there's a lot more to it :D

I case you're strapped for cash, you can read this:

C++ Annotations

I learned a lot from that site!
