We're planning for a major revision of the site that involves an overhaul of the forums. Details will be discussed when it's closer the launch date, but the basic goal is to bring the forums to the forefront of the site. Essentially, the home page will become the forums where the discussions will happen, whether it's about a news item, a question, or showcasing a project. Of course, the current forum software isn't really suitable for that, so we're building a custom (albeit simpler) solution that better integrates with the rest of the site.

In order to make sure we focus on the right things, I'd like to get feedback from the community about the current forums and how it's working out. What do you like about it? What do you hate about it? What are the things you can't live without?

I agree, 'unread posts' is a must-have. Anybody else have any other things they'd like to add?
There's a lot of features in the current forum software that are unused, so a lot of cruft can be cut down, but I want to make sure we don't overlook something.
