Greetings,

My name's Paul Statezny and I'm co-founder and audio / design lead of Diamond Shadow Games. We're an independent game development team and we just began development of our new project, Armored Eclipse, a few months ago.

Armored Eclipse is a *free* full 3d action game that places you in an Earth 250 years into the future where aerial and space weaponry have been destroyed to avoid all possibility of global nuclear warfare. When Earth begins losing the ability to support such a large humankind, the three major factions go to war with the best combat technology they have to offer—high tech battle tanks.

Armored Eclipse is primarily aimed toward multiplay, but there's also a single player campaign for each of the factions that will be released after the multiplay-only version is finished. Gameplay features mid-battle customizable tanks, bases, and a plethora of weapons to choose from.

We came to the conclusion that this project was large enough to be worthy of a full-scale game engine, so we're already deep into development of that. All coding for the engine and game are in C++ and DirectX.

By releasing a free game with addicting gameplay and as close to modern graphics as we can get (from artists on a volunteer basis), we plan on gaining hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands and thousands of committed fans. They'll dedicate servers to hosting games, use our free map creation utility to take gameplay into their own hands, and just have an all-around blast facing off against international opponents!

Though we're a group of dedicated workers, the workload does need to be distributed. The design document, storyline, and concept art for Armored Eclipse are viewable at our web site. Programmer
Programmers are very much needed in order to shorten the length of time it takes to develop Armored Eclipse. We'll assign entire modules of the engine or game code to assisting coders, so they'll need to have extensive knowledge of at least certain aspects of game programming. Qualifications include:
  • Minimum 3 years experience with C++
  • Minimum 2 years experience with DirectX 8.0+
  • Ability to work together with teammates flexibly
  • Ability to devote 7+ hours per week to the project (more is preferred)
  • Experience finishing at least 1 game using DirectX
  • A Positive Attitude!
3D Modeller
There is an extensive list of in-game models that will need to be created, ranging from tanks and weaponry to structures and natural/organic objects. Modellers need to be able skilled at low-polygon model creation. Qualifications include:
  • Experience working in a major modeller (including but not limited to 3ds Max, Maya, Truespace, and Lightwave)
  • Portfolio / collection of previous work
  • Previous models have been used in a game or mod
  • Ability to regularly output models without long periods of down-time
  • Ability to model based on concept art
  • Ability to alter models based on criticism
  • A Positive Attitude!
Pixel Artist
Models will need detailed textures in order to create the illusion of a detailed mesh. Artists will also be creating the game interface based on detailed descriptions. Qualifications include:
  • Portfolio / collection of previous work
  • Either Experience with creating graphical interfaces or experience with texturing 3d meshes
  • Ability to work on a schedule
  • A Positive Attitude!
