wow i want a shot, looks like good fun to me... more... serious type gaming.
you used to be able to fit a game on a disk, then you used to be able to fit a game on a cd, then you used to be able to fit a game on a dvd, now you can barely fit one on your harddrive.

I don't think it would be my thing. Might be a good way to lower surgery costs, though. Medical costs in general have gone completely insane and they are finding more and more are unnecessary, like this recent study on mammograms that showed about 1/3 of the operations wouldn't have gone to serious problems and they are only a small percentage better off than not doing anything at all. Meanwhile raising insurance rates enormously.

We have what's called "The National Health" which provides free medical care and viral infections for all.

Underfunded and dangerous. I tend to do my own running repairs, I was quite good at stitching myself up, but now I am lazy and use super glue.

I wonder if you can use a ZX81 for remote surgery?

I haven't gotten there, yet. I think most major problems can be avoided by eating right and getting some exercise everyday. I'll take that to going down and getting xrays every year any day. I have a distrust for doctors. I can see their eye's light up when they think someone is sick. My stepfather had cancer and one doctor told them it was too late and he should just live the remaining days with pain killers. They called in a specialist who convinced him there was a chance and went through chemo, xray, blah, blah. The only difference was he died sooner and broke. I know there's some good ones, but there's too much money in it. Attracts the wrong crowd.

Interesting, but part of me feels it has to do with age, especially since the article mentions college/uni students faired poorer than high school students. I remember when I use to play FPS games as a kid I could type, move, and shoot at the same time. I was very dexterous. Nowadays I'm a more casual player without feeling the zest to zip around. Olympians are the same too, as often most of them are young and in their 20s.

Age has a lot to do with very fast hand eye coordination, but I'm not sure it matters as much in a slower paced situation like a virtual surgery, unless the person is shaky from age, but that's getting up there. I don't get into fps like I used to, but still like mouse controlled games. I think they probably had more trouble dealing with the abstraction of a mechanical control system. I suppose the real test would be to find some doctor gamers.

I don't think you'll find any doctor gamers, they are too busy going to balls, drinking champagne, mis-diagnosing patients, and writing invoices.

My reactions haven't slowed down with age, but the immersion required to use them has. I just don't care enough about a game to trigger rapid reactions.

How they managed to translate mouse / keyboard into real world 3D movements.... yes fireside, that is something I would like to study.
