Hi, my name is Quintin D. Murrell.

I am currently looking to hire developers for a game company
that I will be starting in the next year or two.

I don't expect much because I want everyone to grow 'in a sence'
togeather. What I mean if not understood, I'm taking in anyone who
has done enough. That way everyone is on the same page, I don't
need anyone thinking thier better than another.

But, I will also take writters beginners or not, sound(midi) devers, Arts,
and if your willing to learn three total beginners.

Why the total beginners? For one they have all sorta ideas for games to help
the writters and they are flexable. One will go to the programmers, another to
the artist, and lastly to the designers.

For the tech. people who would like to know who exaclty it is I'm looking for:
5 Programmers (C, C++, ASM'is a plus' )
2 Artist (2D Art, 3D Art)
2 3D Modelers (3ds max, Maya, Softimage)
1 Audio (I don't know much about this...)
2 Writters/Designers
3 Total newbees

About Me?
Well, I am 21 years of age and love games. So much I'm willing to make
any wannabe a gottabe. I want to start a game company nothing to earth
shaking at first. I am not trying to change anyone's industry...yet.
I work of course for my self doing stock and other self made things.
I live in Houston, Tx and plan to start the company here.
I have a daughter named Shaunece and a wife named Danielle.
To sum this thing up, very down to earth guy that loves games and has
the money to start a company. lol

Now if your interested in joining this team just send over a resume and
a sample of your work. For furthur knowledge that would be:
Programmers: A game windows .exe and source with notes.
Artist: A scaned picture drawing must be in pencil and no color
Writter/Designers: Write a simple design doc. and story of your own doing.
Modelers: Send low poly model of your work(original)
Newbee: Tell me why you want to work in the industry...or for me.
and what would you be interested in(also have a resume)

Your things can be sent to my e-mail at:
quintdeon@hotmail.com

Anything over 100mb should if you can be sent to my home on disk:
15931 Bunker Ridge, Houston,Tx, 77053
Quintin Murrell

Thanks for viewing.

Starting in the next year or two?...isn't it a bit early to be hunting for staff if your company is not even up and running?. Even if you get CV's just now.....I wouldn't imagine many people being in the same position in 1 or 2 years time as they are at present.

Well, you think? This early for a couple of reasons jack.
If you do get the job:

Theres time to get ready
I will pay for the move myself
and It's really a chance for people to communicate and come up
with something, that way if possible the company will come out
with something not long after it's opened.

plus I don't know what type of person you are but I fill that if
I can get people to start now, I'll be better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the replay...i guess.

hi,

so you're going to provide financing in two years... Do you do anything in the "development" side of things? Experience if any? Samples? Could you tell us a little bit more about your skill set?

Ok

I am a programmer, artist, and IT.
I currently own a restaurant in houston called Faty's.(family business)
I have done lots of programming for diff comapnies and I've done art since
I was little. I got hired as an IT this year.

I've worked and worked saved and saved invested and owned
and always had a dream of owning a game company so here I am
trying to get people to contact me.

Remember I'm not looking for pros here I just want talented people
you don't even have to have done any work at all, but you must have
done something in the field you want to be hired as.

There are now some 13 year olds thats already better than some of you
pros or thier on the same level...come on, you don't have to be pro just
legal enough to work for me.(18 up)

About the 13 year olds - that just isn't true. Even if they've been programming since 8 years old, they still do not have a firm grip on the many issues, especially in this field.

BTW, IT really scared me (the book, I've yet to see the film).

@ Quintin:
I confess my ignorance. What is IT ?
(sorry if it's a stupid question)

@ Ed:
did you know at Black & White Studios Ltd is actually employed a 14 years old boy?
He works for one of the best game companies out there and he's only 14...
For God's sake I'm not kidding.
Must be the exception to the rule (I want to believe this) but he's so damn 14!!!
As they say, never judge a book by its cover.

EdMack : don't watch the movie. the adaption is horrible.

Nautilus : IT means information technology, at least here in germany.
so... they employ a 14 year old boy... what exactly is his position ?
If Prolog is the answer, what is the question ?

He's one of the two who takes care of their website, and should also be a texture artist.
More than this I don't know.
The info came from mr. Glenn Watts in a post he made on the BW2 boards months ago.
If I remember correctly, people were discussing about underaged kids being notoriously too young to work in the (game) industry.
So Glenn came and post. Kind of shocking everyone.

Websites are very different than programming - A lot of kids can do html/php no problem (I remember those fun days fondly :)).

IT is also Information Technology here, but I was in the mood for a silly pun

IT is information technology even in Australia.. but I was confused (like Nautilus) about Quintin calling himself an Information Technology.

I think that the days of office companies are gone. Bungie have an office where people work their own hours. This seems pointless. Why not have an online company and then people need not move to texas.

When I was reading the ad I admit the idea sounded very nice. I could have sent in a little model of mine and tried to get the job. Then I saw the bit about moving to Texas! Pardon my un-patriotism to your home-state but it doesn't seem like my kind of place - if it was italy or st petersbourg perhaps, but on that one I'm sorry but it wouldn't work for me.

In reply to Quintin. I like your idea. I do not want to get involved as I have a life and friends and a house here in the land down under. I would suggest that you use your money on hiring people on a commission basis rather than paying them by the hour. For a low-poly 3d model (such as a weapon) you could pay $200 maybe $500 for a higher-poly one. you can also pay texture, 2d artists, programmers and musicians in this manner and you need not pay for many people to move to texas. I suggest you begin online, even if you later move to office based. We have the web so why not use it.

Thanks.

The thing about tele-commuting is that the lose out on perhaps the most vital part of game-dev teams - the synergy and closeness. You need people to be around others for constant creativity, and fun. You need your network guy to shout over to the game designer 'Did you say two hundred troops or two thousand?', because a lack of communication can easily destroy a project. I'm sure you've seen the photos of the Lionhead/Black and White offices; they're filled with posters and models and people, all working together. Same for pixar. It's just how it has to be.

Well there's that, and it's also true that trying to keep several people on track can be very difficult when it's over the internet. If you've got the money this would be the lesser of of the two ways in my opinion.

Now then, that brings up a very good point; what is the first project that you wish to work on? It should be focused on making the company finacially boyant. MMORPG's can get a steady flow of cash in, but the market is way to flooded for a none established company to try and crack. I think a good suggestion would be to hammer out a good FPS for consoles. If done right, there is NO descent fps on the PS at all. It's a way open market. Kill-Zone tryed this and failed. I think a descent Jock type game like Quake with a story and co-op would work so long as it was play tested for the console (control wise that is). in addition you could make it cross plat-form tripling the your potential consumer. Finally, the biggest reason that this may be a good starter game is it's simplicity.

Just a suggestion, it's your (and your wife's) money after all.

BTW, I do admire the clean sleight idea. I can definately see the benifits of doing things this way. Plus, the majority of the ins and outs of game development is alot like a trade, so you probably can get very skilled and acomplished people with the proper amount of effort.

I know this is a dead thread and I know that I was the last person to post, but I wanted to ask something.

Exactly what kind of budget are you talking about? That may come off as a little rude to ask, but I feel that it is nescisary to ask given the circumstances. Running a dev team can be very costly with all the in's and out's is all. People should havea a grasp on thier stability before going into something of the like head first.

If you want to be taken seriously, learn to spell, or at least use a spell checker on _all_ your correspondence.

Nobody would want to (if they were sane) move, work for, or support something like this when the little things are missing...

Spree

P.S. I’m sorry if this sounds anal, and why do I even notice these things, but presentation is key when ever you are promoting... anything...
