Testing closed. Thanks everyone that took part.

Hello everyone!

As part of a university project, I'm developing a 2D racing game inspired by Micro Machines and Mario Kart. I'm looking for people to test a prototype and give feedback on how it plays on their chosen platform.

To play, go to removed. A link to the questionnaire is provided at the end of each race.

Quick facts:
  • Unfinished, early prototype stage.
  • Designed for desktop, laptop, tablets, touchscreen phones (devices released in last 1.5 years or so).
  • Testing and questionnaire takes about 5 minutes.
  • Provide your email in the questionnaire to enter £50 prize draw (otherwise optional).
  • Winner paid by PayPal or bank transfer.
Recommended browsers:
Desktop/laptop:
  • Chrome 22.0+
  • Firefox 15.0+
  • Safari 6.0+
Mobile and tablet:
  • Chrome for Android 18.0+
  • Firefox for Android 15.0+
  • iOS Safari 6.0+
Thank you for your time.

I played it on my desktop with the keyboard, but I couldn't even finish it. The control scheme makes it way too difficult just to stay on the track, let alone actually race competitively. The AIs don't have this problem, so as soon as you go off the track once, you've basically lost - you drop into last place and can't catch up again.

Thanks for the feedback. A lot of people are commentating that it is difficult at the moment. I will have to do some tinkering to work out if the problem is with the controls, speed, mechanics or a combination of everything. Although I do apply banding to the AI (they get worse if they are ahead of you), it doesn't seem to make enough difference at the moment.

In case you still want to fill out the questionnaire, here's a direct link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/mtr01

Like Reed, I couldn't finish it. The problem is you don't have a minimap. The turns are tight and you have to be as quick as a chipmunk to respond.

Why release your game with a survey when it's still in a prototype stage? Wouldn't it be better to finish your project first and then ask for feedback? It seems a little early for you to be asking for feedback.

I was very apprehensive about showing it unfinished, but unfortunately I had to do this kind of testing as part of the assignment regardless. I hope people don't feel I am wasting their time though, as the feedback has still been very useful. Things have been pointed out I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

I will continue developing the game afterwards as a hobby and I assure you the next update will be a lot more polished :)
